Das, was dich als Kind früh aufstehen ließ, um ins Wasser zu gehen, muss nicht dasselbe sein, was dich zwanzig, dreißig oder sogar vierzig Jahre später antreibt. Und ich glaube, genau dieses Verständnis der Entwicklung ist einer der Schlüssel, um ein Leben lang Freude am Bodyboarden zu haben.
Für mich war Bodyboard nie nur ein Sport. Es war eine Art, mit dem Ozean, mit der Natur und mit mir selbst in Beziehung zu treten. Und nach so vielen Jahren finde ich immer noch neue Gründe, ins Wasser zu gehen.

du ein Kind bist, musst du zuerst diese Verbindung zum Ozean, zur Natur und zu einer Umgebung spüren, die sich ständig verändert.
Das Meer ist nie genau gleich. Die Wellen ändern sich, der Wind, die Gezeiten, die Temperatur, das Licht … Jede Session ist anders. Ich glaube, diese Ungewissheit ist einer der Gründe, warum Wellen-Sportarten so besonders sind.
Aber es gibt auch viele Faktoren, die diese Verbindung und die Lust, ins Wasser zu gehen, beeinflussen können.
Das Klima, die Wassertemperatur, die Art der Wellen in deiner Region, ob deine Eltern einen Wassersport ausüben, ob Bodyboard dort, wo du wohnst, bekannt ist oder ob du Freunde hast, mit denen du deine Sessions teilen kannst – all das kann einen großen Unterschied machen.
Ich persönlich hatte das große Glück, auf La Réunion anzufangen. Es ist eine tropische Insel im Indischen Ozean mit warmem Wasser, Wellen das ganze Jahr über und einer sehr aktiven Bodyboard-Community.
Für ein Kind, das anfängt, ist das meiner Meinung nach eine fantastische Umgebung. Der Ozean ist immer präsent und es gibt viele Möglichkeiten, Bodyboard zu entdecken, es mit anderen zu teilen und vor allem Spaß zu haben.
Und dieser Spaß ist wichtig.
Bevor du an Manöver, Wettkämpfe, Boards, Rankings oder Leistung denkst, musst du einfach nur genießen, im Wasser zu sein.

Du kannst jetzt alleine ins Wasser gehen. Du bist körperlich stärker, um dich den Bedingungen des Meeres zu stellen, und du beginnst besser zu verstehen, wie die Wellen funktionieren. Wenn es dich interessiert, kannst du auch anfangen zu konkurrieren.
In meinem Fall hat mir die Wettkampfseite des Bodyboardens enorm geholfen, weiterzumachen.
Wettkämpfe geben dir Ziele und Etappen. Sie zwingen dich zu trainieren, besser zu werden und neue Wege zu finden, um zu progressieren. Sie laden dich auch ein, Bodyboard auf Weltniveau zu verfolgen, die besten Rider kennenzulernen, Idole zu haben und den Kopf voller Träume zu haben.
Wenn du jung bist, können diese Träume riesig sein.
Du willst reisen, an den besten Spots der Welt antreten, dich mit den besten Bodyboardern messen und Ergebnisse erzielen.
Und ich glaube, dass Ziele zu haben ein sehr starkes Werkzeug ist, um die Motivation im Bodyboarden aufrechtzuerhalten.
Aber ich habe auch gelernt, dass sich Ziele ändern.

der Zeit kommen die ersten Reisen.
Und dann entdeckst du, dass Bodyboard viel mehr ist als die Wellen an deinem Stammstrand.
Du beginnst, verschiedene Wellen rund um die Welt kennenzulernen, unterschiedliche Rider-Communities, verschiedene Kulturen und unterschiedliche Arten, den Sport zu verstehen.
Für mich war eine der schönsten Dinge, die mir Bodyboard gegeben hat, genau diese Möglichkeit zu reisen.
Bodyboard kann dir viele Türen öffnen.
Es ermöglicht dir, Menschen kennenzulernen, die du wahrscheinlich auf keine andere Weise getroffen hättest. Du kannst an Orte gelangen, die du dir nie vorgestellt hättest, zu besuchen, und Sessions mit Menschen teilen, die eine andere Sprache sprechen, eine andere Kultur haben oder Tausende von Kilometern von deinem Zuhause entfernt leben.
Aber es gibt etwas, das ich noch wichtiger finde.
Wenn du diesen Sport und die Gefühle, die dir der Ozean vermittelt, wirklich liebst, musst du weder Wettkämpfe fahren noch um die ganze Welt reisen, um dieses Bedürfnis zu spüren, ins Wasser zu gehen.
Du kannst diese Motivation an einem Strand in der Nähe deines Zuhauses finden.
Du kannst sie in einer einstündigen Session finden.
Du kannst sie in einer einzigen Welle finden.

Der erste ist ganz einfach: Dank Bodyboard bleibe ich körperlich fit.
Jede Stunde, die ich im Wasser verbringe, fühlt sich an, als würde ich in meine Gesundheit und meine Zukunft investieren. Ich habe das Gefühl, dass mir jede Session mehr Lebenszeit schenkt.
Sport hat auch emotional und mental einen enormen Einfluss. Wenn ich Sport treibe, denke ich klarer, bin positiver und schlafe besser. Ich habe auch ein stärkeres Körperbewusstsein und spüre besser, wie es mir geht.
Nach so vielen Jahren Bodyboard kenne ich meinen Körper ziemlich gut. Ich weiß, wann ich ihm mehr abverlangen kann und wann ich das Tempo drosseln muss.
Und auch das gehört dazu, die Motivation aufrechtzuerhalten.
Es geht nicht darum, immer am Limit zu trainieren. Nicht jede Session muss episch sein. Nicht jede Welle muss perfekt sein.
Manchmal musst du einfach nur ins Wasser gehen.
