In de loop van mijn carrière als bodyboarder heb ik ontzettend veel boards getest: verschillende shapes, materialen, diktes, channels en natuurlijk verschillende soorten tails. Als er één vraag is die voortdurend opduikt onder bodyboarders, is het precies deze: is een bodyboard met bat tail beter of met crescent tail?

Bat tail en crescent tail hebben verschillende eigenschappen en kunnen het gevoel op een board sterk veranderen. Maar de tail is slechts één onderdeel van het geheel. Het gedrag van een bodyboard hangt af van de combinatie van veel elementen: de shape, de breedte, de dikte, het materiaal, de rocker, de channels, het deck, de slick en natuurlijk het type tail.
Na jarenlang op het hoogste niveau te hebben gevaren en heel verschillende golven over de hele wereld te hebben gesurft, heb ik geleerd dat je een board niet alleen op basis van de tail mag beoordelen.
