Longboard wheels
The size, thickness, hardness and design of longboard wheels determine how the board will perform: smooth cruising, intense carving or controlled freeride. Below you’ll find all the options available to set up your longboard according to your style.
How to choose longboard wheels: size, hardness and design
Longboard wheels: size and hardness for your style
The first question I ask when someone is setting up a longboard is whether they prioritize comfort or speed. For longboarding, it’s best to start with large (60–75 mm) and soft (78a–82a) wheels. Hardness is what really makes the difference here: 78a and 80a offer more grip and comfort for urban cruising; 82a gains in speed but gives up some shock absorption. Size determines control: 65–69 mm for technical carving, 70–75 mm for smooth rides and straight‑line stability. Design also matters: Eco-Mag profiles for versatility, Slick for maximum speed.

Longboard characteristics and their impact on wheel choice
Longboards are long boards designed to offer stability and speed. In practice, the type of wheel should be adapted to the specific use: smooth city cruising calls for soft (78a–80a) large‑diameter (70–75 mm) wheels; downhill freeride needs 82a hardness with controlled-slide capability; freestyle, on the other hand, demands greater maneuverability and benefits from mid‑size wheels (65–69 mm).
One thing to keep in mind is that versatile longboards let you switch styles by changing the wheel setup: urban cruising with soft 70–75 mm wheels, dynamic carving with 80–82a hardness, fast downhill with speed‑oriented profiles. On the water—or in this case, on asphalt—that means each combination of diameter, hardness and design clearly transforms the riding experience. Choose the combination that matches your main type of use.
