Frequently asked questions about skateboard bearings

Skateboard bearings are classified by the ABEC scale according to their precision. In skateboarding, ABEC 3 to ABEC 9 (highest quality) are used. ABEC 5 is the most common standard for street skating, ABEC 7 is ideal for skateparks with greater agility and quick response, and ABEC 9 is for competitions and maximum performance. The higher the ABEC number, the more efficient and faster your bearings will be.

To remove the bearings from your skateboard for cleaning or replacement, first unscrew and take off the wheels. Then, very carefully and using pliers, lever the bearings out of the trucks with gentle pressure. Careful handling is crucial so as not to damage the bearing balls during removal. To reinstall, apply specific lubricant before mounting them again.

To clean skateboard bearings, first remove the wheels. Carefully take off one of the bearing shields and soak it in solvent (acetone or a specialized cleaner) to remove grease and dirt. Let it drain face down and dry it with gauze without excessive rubbing. Then apply high-speed lubricant or ceramic grease to the bearing balls. Repeat this process every 20–30 km to maintain durability and optimal low-friction performance of your bearings.

For street skating, choosing ABEC 7 bearings with medium-to-large wheels gives a better balance between speed and control. ABEC 5 is enough for casual street skating. In skateparks, many skaters prefer more precise ABEC 7 bearings for a quicker response in technical tricks. The bearing material (standard steel, ceramic, or titanium) also affects durability and rolling friction.

Yes, all skateboard bearings use the standard 608RS size, which ensures universal compatibility. You can use the same bearings in street skateboard wheels, classic skateboards, or surfskate wheels without any problem. This standardization makes it easy to buy bearings of any brand and material (steel, ceramic, titanium) knowing they will fit perfectly in your skateboard wheels.
