My answer is quite simple: there is no tail that is universally better than the other.
Bat tails and crescent tails have different characteristics and can really change the sensations we get on a board. But the tail is only one part of the whole. The way a bodyboard behaves depends on the combination of many elements: the shape, the width, the thickness, the material, the rocker, the channels, the deck, the slick and, of course, the type of tail.
After many years competing at the highest level and surfing very different waves around the world, I’ve learned that we shouldn’t judge a board solely by its tail.
